A short commercial of the Dove soap has caused controversy among netizens, who claim he shows a black woman who turns white after washing.
The woman who participated in the company's Dove commercial, the target of thousands of complaints, denies that the video is racist.
In the midst of the fury, the Nigerian Lola Ogunyemi, protagonist of the commercial, spoke about the publicity to The Guardian. She says she does not consider the video racist and that she liked to participate in the filming.
In his view, the experience with the company was "positive", adding that he spent "a fantastic time during filming".
"All the women who participated in the shoot realized the idea and the overall goal - to use our differences to underline the fact that the skin deserves kindness," she explained.
When she first saw the advertising video on Facebook, she admitted that she "really liked him," just like her family and friends.
"Then the entire 30-second video appeared on TV in the US, and I was very happy again. In the full version there are seven, of different races and ages, each of us answering a question: 'If your skin were a washing tag, what would she say? "
Dove, which is owned by Unilever, and other soap producers have already been criticized for racism in advertising in the past. In the 20th century, advertisements often portrayed black people as dirty, an aspect that was referred to by critics in discussions about the latest Dove campaign.
In The Guardian's article, Ogunyemi says "she can see how the snapshots circulating on the Internet have been misinterpreted as Dove has been criticized in the past for the same reason."
