Scientists warn: global warming threatens humanity with devastating hunger
US researchers reveal what global warming has in common with an increase in the population of dangerous insects, indicating how all this can cause famine that will spread throughout the planet.
According to researchers at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA), global warming will result in massive famine not only because of extreme weather conditions, but because of the proliferation of crop-damaging insects, EurekAlert!
Scientists warn that global warming will result in significant intensification of arthropod metabolism (and appetite) which will eventually lead to increased fertility. The increase in the insect population will cause losses of 10% to 15% in the cultivation of rice, maize and wheat for each degree Celsius of average temperature increase.
However, if the average temperature warms by two degrees Celsius, the losses will amount to 213 million tonnes per year.

By 2016, the UN has revealed that at least 815 million people do not get enough food. Maize, rice and wheat are the main crops of agriculture, which are consumed by four billion people.
However, it is assumed that rice plantations will not be so affected by insects, as these grains grow in tropical regions, where insect activity has already reached the maximum level.
