MJ - foreign national registration and identity card are now free to refugees
The National Alien Registration (RNE) and the identity card for refugees and asylum seekers are now issued free of charge from now. A decree signed by Justice Minister José Eduardo Cardozo, and published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday (2) exempts those nationals of other countries shouldering the expenses of R $ 106.45 (RNE) and R $ 57 , 69 (identity).

The National Secretary of Justice, Beto Vasconcelos explains that the ordinance is more a measure which adds to the Brazilian political refuge, ensuring easier and faster way the documentation for these victims of war, persecution and situations of serious violations of rights humans. According to Vasconcelos, Brazil has taken correct and structuring measures before the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II.

In 2015, MJ announced the strengthening of the National Committee for Refugees (CONARE) by hiring more civil servants and modernizing health care systems; conducted awareness campaigns; renewed measure allowing issuance of special visas to people affected by war in Syria and signed an agreement with the UN to train agents of consulates in Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan in the issuing of these special visas process.
