Zuckerberg will donate 99% of its shares on Facebook

Resources will go to a foundation that will name the billionaire and his wife and will be used to "make the world a better place." Announcement is made after the birth of their daughter.

The president of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, announced on Tuesday (1/12) will donate nearly his entire fortune to make the world "a better place" for their newborn daughter, Max, and other children.

In an open letter addressed to Max and "posted" on Facebook, Zuckerberg and Chan said they will donate 99% of the company's shares, with an estimated value of $ 45 billion. The donation will not happen at once, but throughout their lives.

The funds will be used for causes such as fighting disease, improving education and strengthening communities, wrote Zuckerberg and Chan. To achieve these goals, the couple will create a foundation, called Initiative Chan Zuckerberg, who will use the donations to charity resources, private investment and support for government policies.

"Max, we love you and we feel a great responsibility to make the world a better place for you and for every child. We wish you a life with the same love, hope and joy you have given us. We look forward to seeing your contribution for this world, "added the parents in the letter to her daughter.

"Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a better world than ours today," wrote the couple. Max was born last week, but the news was only released on Tuesday.

The announcement was well received in charitable ways. "It's incredibly impressive and tremendous value that really overshadows anything we've seen in terms of magnitude," said Phil Buchanan, president of the Center for Effective Philanthropy, a nonprofit association that helps charities to apply their resources more effectively .

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for example, manages 41 billion dollars, including funds donated by the founder of Microsoft and his friend, businessman Warren Buffett.
