mobile application can detect earthquakes

The MyShake allows you to detect and monitor earthquakes - even those you do not feel

MyShake

It may be that now, without you know it, a light earthquake is rolling right below your feet. If you are in Brazil, the chances are rare: as the world records over one million earthquakes a year, in Brazilian territory these events only happen between 15 and 20 times. And most of them are so weak that goes unnoticed.

But now your phone can reveal everything that happens under your feet? even the slightest of tremors. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, have developed a free application that uses the phone's accelerometer (a device that makes the screen rotate when you turn the phone) and GPS to measure the tremors in one spot. It is MyShake.

The idea of the researchers is to spread your application worldwide. The more we drive the program, more data on earthquakes will be available (the analysis on each user's mobile is stored on a server). When some 300 phones detect a tremor, the data will be collected and analyzed on a computer. Then the application can serve as an early warning system to those who are close to the earthquake region.

The program can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for any smartphone with Android system? there is also a version for iPhone. And you can stay connected all the time, in the background of your phone. Thus, any earthquake, you will receive an alert.
