William Travilla made famous gold lame dress especially for Marilyn to use in the movie Gentlemen prefer Blondes. Two models were made at the end of the dress was censored for being too bold with his big neck.
The dress was created from a single full cycle of gold lame. Marilyn wanted to use it for the Photoplay Awards 1953. Travilla was not happy. He thought that the dress should be used in a movie and not in a public appearance. Marilyn won the award and the "envy" of Joan Crawford who claimed "Miss Monroe was ordinary. Nothing against my breasts, but do not get there showing them to win a prize. "
