In 1961, an electrician, one business manager and a mechanic founded in Jaragua do Sul (SC), the Eletromotores Jaragua. Years later, the business created by Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon João da Silva and Geraldo Werninghaus gained a new corporate name, Eletromotores WEG SA - join the initials of the three founders. Considered one of the largest electrical equipment manufacturers in the world, WEG operates in the areas of command and protection, speed variation, industrial process automation, generation and distribution and industrial paints and varnishes.
Although its headquarters and main manufacturing units remain in the small Jaragua do Sul, with about 140,000 inhabitants, WEG has manufacturing facilities spread across São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Amazonas and also in Argentina, Mexico, United States, Austria, Portugal, South Africa, China and India, as well as distribution and marketing facilities in countries like the United States, Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates.
It is in this company with net revenues of almost US $ 8 billion and just over 30,000 employees that the current discussion on the generation of electricity wins innovation contours. According to ANEEL (Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency), about 84% of all energy in the country is produced by hydropower. In periods of drought, emergency thermal are activated and the user account becomes more expensive. Because of these hardships, the generation of solar power (via photovoltaic system - those who, when exposed to light, they produce electricity) gains momentum in Brazil and has a very promising future for residential consumers and for the industry.
Since 2012, WEG develops solutions for Solar Energy, which is being demonstrated at Casa Cor Santa Catarina 2015 in Itajaí. The company installed a photovoltaic generation system, in which sunlight is converted into electricity for homes, commerce and industry. WEG technology will generate about 400 kWh / month for one of the projects presented in the exhibition of architecture, decoration and landscaping. This number is enough to power a medium-sized house. Visitors will also monitor power generation in real-time through the monitoring system. WEG is one of the pioneers in Brazil in providing integrated solar power generation systems.
