Breast milk gives a force to protect the immune system of babies against bacteria and fungi. And thanks to this liquid, British scientists thought in a kind of 'virus' that 'travels' by the body and fighting infections that we adults also have the body.
From the lactoferrin, a protein found in breast milk, researchers at the National Physical Laboratory synthesized a kind of capsule similar to a virus. In addition to the nano size, creation functions as a conventional virus that infiltrates a cell (bacteria, in this case) and use as a host to maintain.
When they found the bacteria, the reaction of "parasites" turbine with lactoferrin amino acid was immediate. "The result was devastating: the capsules attacked the membranes [the bacteria] with a lot of speed and efficiency," says Hasan Alkassem, one of the researchers who worked on the project.
In practice, the capsule made a direct attack on the host organism, destroying the membranes and reducing the chances of defense in case of resistence to antibiotics. The scientists responsible for the research report that the virus was also able to distinguish between bacteria and the body's cells, which is essential for its proper functioning.
Before leaving the controlled environment of laboratories to be used in humans, the 'virus' coming from the breast milk should undergo tests on animals.
