BRICS summit will discuss economic issues
The leaders of emerging powers gathered in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) meet this weekend at their annual summit in India, at a time when the bloc sees her weight decreased by their economic difficulties.
The BRICS group, whose members together account for 53% of world population and 16 trillion of GDP, was created in 2011 to use its economic influence and joint policy to counterbalance the West in the management of world affairs.
But at the meeting of leaders of the five countries on Saturday and Sunday in Goa (South India), the only one who can be proud of the economic results of their country will be the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
According to projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Indian economy will register for 2016/2017 an increase of 7.6%, equivalent to the previous financial year.
But the rest of this group can not say the same.
Russia and Brazil recently fell into recession, a situation which last month South Africa managed to avoid by little. The growth of China, engine of the world economy, is seriously saw decelerated.
Trade, Growth, Syria
The leaders of the BRICS will discuss "prospects for global growth, the group's role and its contribution to this growth," said Amar Sinha, the Indian foreign ministry.
Global warming, regional security, are also on the agenda, he said.
Russia should also introduce the debates the issue of Syria, whose regime Moscow supports and help in its fight against the rebels and extremists, despite criticism and complaints from the international community.
"International terrorism and the peace process in Syria" will be discussed, they indicated the services of Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a statement.
International leaders "will hold discussions on cooperation of the BRICS as well as other global and regional issues," the Vice Minister of Chinese Foreign, Li Baodong, according to the statements attributed to China New Agency.
Michel Temer will use the event to try to strengthen the Brazilian trade with the rest of the group.
On the sidelines of the summit are planned bilateral meetings for more substantial talks. The Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi receive Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian Vladimir Putin.
uncertainties
This eighth summit is held amid uncertainty about the future of the BRICS group, which created its own development bank.
India, one of the coalition engines, looks away from becoming a little more since the arrival of Modi in 2014 to power. The country has since favored a rapprochement policy with the United States.
For Eswar Prasad, professor of trade and economics at Cornell University (United States), the evil BRICS economic time reduce their influence.
"Given its important size and its significant global contribution, this group could have weight if acted in concert," he told AFP.
However, "economic problems of several members reduced their strength and influence," he said.
