Obama reminds King of Thailand as a "close friend"
Washington - US President Barack Obama, expressed on Thursday his condolences for the death of the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, who said it was "close friend" and an "estimated partner", highlighting, in addition, his defense "tirelessly" for the development of their country.
Bhumibol, who died today at age 88 in a hospital in Bangkok where he was hospitalized for over a year, "demonstrated a tireless dedication to improving the standard of living of the Thai people", "said Obama in a statement released by the White House.
"The American people and I are with the people of Thailand as mourn the death of your majesty," Obama said.
The President recalled the "honor" which was to meet with the monarch during his visit to Thailand in 2012 to highlight the "deep affection and compassion" for his people.
In another statement, the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, has joined the "deep condolences" Obama the death of Bhumibol, who was the dean of the world's heads of state after 70 years on the throne.

Bhumibol "will be remembered for a long time," said Kerry.
