Has anyone ever turned down the Knight's Order of the Queen of England?

Many people. The total list is kept secret, but a BBC report was named after all those dead who said "no" between 1951 and 1999.

Many people. The total list is kept secret, but a BBC report was named after all those dead who said "no" between 1951 and 1999. There were 277 people - check out some of the more famous ones below. The most recent version of the Order of the British Empire was established by King George 5th in 1917 and has five subdivisions. They can be offered (along with the honorary title of "sir" or "dame") to British citizens in recognition of their work for the country and British culture.

In 2008, the physicist himself revealed that he said "no" in the 1990s in protest of the government's decision to merge a research council and two bodies of astronomy and physics, thereby reducing funding for scientific research

John Lennon

The beatle accepted the honor in 1965, but ended up refusing it four years later. In a note to Queen Elizabeth, she said it was a protest to British involvement in conflicts in Nigeria and to support the US in the Vietnam War

David Bowie

He said "no" in 2000 and 2003. After the release of his first refusal, the singer publicly stated that he did not know what this type of naming was for and that it did not fit the type of work he had done throughout his life

Michael faraday

In documents of the time, the chemist-physicist who discovered the electromagnetic field said he preferred to remain a "candid" and "simple" individual. He further alleged that the complications of such a title would hinder his scientific work

Aldous Huxley
ALDOUS HUXLEY

The essayist and writer, author of the classic Brave New World, was a notorious supporter of socialist ideals. So it was not exactly a surprise when he rejected the honor in 1959, four years before he died

Roald Dahl
ROALD DAHL

The infantojuvenil author was known for the classic The Fantastic Factory of Chocolate ... and for his difficult genius. The most accepted theory is that the grouch would have dispensed the title of "sir" in 1986 just to be "of the counter"
