Bruce Lee, born Lee Jun-fan, San Francisco, November 27, 1940 - Kowloon, July 20, 1973) was an American martial artist and martial arts instructor, philosopher, actor and filmmaker, founder of Jeet Kune Do and son of the star of Cantonese Opera Lee Hoi-chuen.
It is widely considered by many commentators, critics, the media and other martial artists as one of the most influential martial artists ever, and a pop culture icon of the 20th century. XX. Lee is often credited with helping to change the way Asians were portrayed in American films.
Lee was born in the Chinatown neighborhood of San Francisco, the son of parents from Hong Kong, and grew up with his family in Kowloon. He was introduced in the film industry by his father appearing in several films as a child actor. Lee went to the United States at eighteen to take higher education at the University of Washington in Seattle who began teaching Martial Arts.
His films from Hong Kong and Hollywood raised Hong Kong's traditional martial arts films to a new level of acclaim and popularity, creating a strong interest in the Chinese martial arts in the West in the 1970s. The direction and tone of his films have changed and influenced martial arts and martial arts films in the United States, Hong Kong and the rest of the world.
Lee became known for his role in five feature films: The Big Boss (1971) and Lo Wei's Fist of Fury (1972); Golden Harvest's Way of the Dragon (1972), written and directed by Lee; Enter the Dragon (1973) by Golden Harvest and Warner Brothers and The Game of Death (1978), both featuring Robert Clouse.
Lee became an iconic figure all over the world, particularly among the Chinese, since he portrayed Chinese nationalism in his films. He trained in the art of Wing Chun and later combined his other influences from other sources in the spirit of his own philosophy of martial arts, which he called Jeet Kune Do (The Path of the Interceptor Fist).
Lee had dual nationality, American and Hong Kong. He died in Kowloon Tong on July 20, 1973, at the age of 32.
