UN calls emergency meeting after North Korea conducts nuclear test
North Korea conducted test hydrogen bomb. Explosion caused an earthquake of 5.1 on the Richter scale
On Wednesday, the North Korean government said it had done successfully, its first hydrogen test, taking a significant step in developing the nuclear program. "The first test of hydrogen bomb of the Republic was successful at 10am (local time) on January 6, 2016, based on the strategic determination of the Workers Party", he announced the state television.
Several seismic activity centers today detected a concussion in the country, standing up, instantly being able to have been caused by a nuclear test.
"With the overall success of our historic H-bomb, we join the group of advanced nuclear states," the government said, adding that the test was done with a miniature device.
The test was ordered personally by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and occurs two days before his birthday.
Last month, during a military inspection, Jong-un suggested that the country had developed a hydrogen bomb, although the announcement was met with skepticism by international experts.
The hydrogen bomb or thermonuclear, uses nuclear fusion in a chain reaction that results in powerful explosion.
"The last test confirmed our technological resources, recently developed, are accurate and scientifically demonstrate the impact of our miniaturized H-bomb," said the television presenter, who inspired the government's message.
Effective performance of the test has yet to be confirmed by the international community.
The North Korean regime said it was not the first to resort to bomb and indicated that it will continue to develop its nuclear strike capability. "While persisting US policy against North Korea, we will not stop developing its nuclear program."
The country had already made three nuclear tests in 2006, 2009 and 2013, earning him UN sanctions. Various United Nations resolutions prohibiting North Korean government to develop nuclear weapons or technology related to ballistic missiles activities.
