Astronauts see detail of the solar eclipse no one saw on Earth
Billions of people across the planet stopped for a few minutes Monday to follow the full solar eclipse, which was beneficial to the entire population of the 50 US states, who were able to follow the phenomenon in full and in detail.
But no one on Earth was able to follow something that only six people could see directly from space.
The six astronauts on the International Space Station looked at the phenomenon from a very special perspective: they were able to photograph and see the umbra - the moon's shadow - projecting over the US.
Facing the station's position, the astronauts could not have a complete view of the solar eclipse.
On the other hand, the US space agency said the astronauts crossed the eclipse three times, even though they orbited the US territory at an altitude of 402 kilometers.
