The intentions of pushing Russia out of the European energy market have already failed in the 1970s and now will fail as well, said US Chamber of Commerce chairman Alexis Rodzianko.

"For now, the sanctions law status has not hampered our work at all, nor did it influence business," he said.
The economist pointed out that sanctions already existed before they were law, so in fact "nothing has changed".

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday enacted a law passed by the US Congress that tightens anti-Russian sanctions over his alleged interference in the US elections in 2016, an accusation that Moscow has repeatedly rejected.

The document allows the US president to impose restrictions on people and companies that invest, sell, acquire or supply services, technologies, information or support to Russia in the construction of pipelines and oil pipelines for export.

In this way, American law leaves the door open to sanctions against European companies for collaborating with Moscow in the energy sector, particularly in the framework of the Northern Stream 2 project which provides for a network of gas pipes with a capacity of 55 billion meters Cubic years from the Russian coast to Germany through the depths of the Baltic Sea.

Commenting on such sanctions, several experts expressed that in this way the US seeks to expel Russia from Europe's energy market.

According to Rodzianko, the intentions of doing so have already failed in the last century and are bound to fail once again. Therefore, stressed the economist, this "is not a new idea".
