Science has not yet discovered how is life after death. But increasingly we understand what happens to the body after our heart stops beating.
You may have heard that human flesh, when it begins to decompose, gives off a sweet smell. But a study by scientists at the University of Leuven in Belgium, found that the smell of death is much more than that. A dead body releases more than 400 volatile organic compounds produced by bacteria that transform the body tissues in gases and salts.
However, the sweet scent that some people feel more strongly even exists. This is because some of the volatile compounds that sloughs off after the death of fruit are also produced, especially when they rot.
Another curiosity about the bodies of the dead has to do with hair and nails. They keep saying out there that they never stop growing, even when you die. But not quite. The hair follicle and the fact that the nail matrix are still alive after death. However, there must be hormonal regulation and supply of proteins and oils for the hair and nails grow.
The funny thing is that the nails of corpses seem even larger. Because? As the body dehydrates the skin around the nail retracts. This makes it seem longer than it is. With the the same thing. The face skin, for example, also dries out, causing the face appear more prominent.
