Preceding with childlike sexual dolls can change UK legislation
The UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) has confiscated 123 child-like sex dolls that people were trying to import into Britain.
An institution dealing with child abuse issues has called for changes to British law after an ultra-realistic childish-looking sex doll has been considered "obscene" in a referral case.
Seven people have been sued for trying to import anatomically correct childlike silicone sex dolls into Britain.
In June, Andrew Dobson, 49, a citizen of the United Kingdom, was arrested for two years and eight months for trying to import one of such dolls. He bought this doll in Hong Kong and made a request for its delivery in the UK with a "dummy" marking.
The customs confiscated the doll and in the man's house searches were made, during which files were searched for with child porn in his computer. Andrew Dobson
Police have stated that several people have already been convicted of buying such articles in Hong Kong or China.
But a gap in British law finds that while importing such dolls is now a crime, there is no legislation describing their possession as a crime. So if someone is able to smuggle one into the country, they can get away with it.
Hazel Stewart, a specialist consultant and operations manager at NCA's Center for Exploited Children and Protection (CEOP), said that UK laws need to be changed to take account of technological advances.
He said that in the future not only realistic dolls, but also child-like sex robots could pose a threat to society. Therefore, it is necessary to make changes in the laws of the country in advance to avoid such cases.
