The White House is preparing to begin an investigation into China's trade policy as the US government is increasingly concerned about Beijing's plans to become a technological leader in the future, according to an American edition, quoting sources familiar with the Trump team plans.

The announcement about the start of the investigation can be made in the next few days. According to the New York Times, this step will mean that Washington has just moved away from the initial idea of closer cooperation with Beijing. In a way, this has to do with the fact that top US officials are disillusioned that China does not want to oppose North Korean actions.

The citation, citing three different sources familiar with the Trump administration's plans, says the investigation will focus on the alleged violations of US intellectual property rights by the Chinese.

According to the media, by the year 2025 China plans to become a leading producer in cutting-edge areas, including robotic construction, artificial intelligence and others.

The country's policy known as Made in China 2025 aims to make China a world leader in 10 spheres with the help of large government investments and protection of these spheres of competitors in the American territory.

At the same time, the Chinese government insists on reducing license fees by US companies for key patents and setting up joint ventures that plan to work in China.

It is reported that the investigation by the Office of the US Trade Representative regarding Chinese commercial practices may last several months. After that, Washington could undertake a series of measures, including introducing extremely high tariffs on Chinese imports and canceling the licenses granted to Chinese companies to work in the United States.

Earlier, Trump wrote on his Twitter page that he is disappointed with China, as Beijing did nothing to solve the North Korean problem. The US permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, also called on Beijing to start acting on Pyongyang.
