U.s. Vice President arrives in Iraq on surprise visit

Joe Biden: the United States is advising and supporting militarily to Iraqi authoritiesto retrieve the territories conquered by the jihadists

Baghdad-the American Vice President, Joe Biden, arrived on Thursday to Iraq in a surprise visit to the Arab country, which is immersed in a serious political crisis that paralyzed government institutions.

Biden landed in the capital, Baghdad, shortly before 5:00 pm local (11:00, in Brasilia)where he was received by the Prime Minister, Haidar al-Abadi, who broached the situation political, economic and security in the country, according to the official television "Al-Iraquiya".

The fight against the terrorist group Islamic State (EI) focus the visit of Biden to Iraq,which is supported by the United States against the jihadists, who control large parts of the country.

Two senior American officials who traveled with the Vice President explained underanonymity reporters that Biden will insist in their meetings with the Iraqi authoritieson the "importance of National Union", to keep the "momentum" in the campaign against the jihadists.

According to the White House, the Vice President wants to talk of "measures that the international community can adopt to promote economic stability in Iraq and more regional cooperation".

Local analysts considered that Biden's visit occurs before a possible operation to free the great city of Mosul, in northern Iraq, which is in the hands of HEY since June 2014.

Iraqi forces launched in late March a wide operation in the province of Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital, whose main goal is to retake this town that became the stronghold in Iraq.
