Rocket launcher: the United States asked soon after urgent consultations in the UN Security Council
China and Russia on Friday lamented the possible deployment of a u.s. anti-missile shield on the Korean peninsula, less than 24 hours after the release frustrated by North Korea of two medium-range missiles.
In reaction to the series of tests conducted by Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington plan to install in South Korea a missile shield system THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defence System), able to destroy North Korean missiles during flight.
Beijing, in turn, worried by this new mobilization near its territory.
"Both of us are seriously concerned about the likely mobilization of the THAAD system in South Korea," said the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, in a joint press conference with his Russian colleague, Sergey Lavrov, on a visit to Beijing.
"The initiative goes beyond the actual needs of affected countries," estimated Wang, and "this will directly affect the strategic security of China and Russia, respectively, if the system is mobilized," he added.
Mr Lavrov condemned that Washington used the Pyongyang tests as a pretext to equip yourself with a "global anti-ballistic defense".
North Korea held on Thursday a frustrated two medium-range missiles.
