The British mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954), received a royal pardon 59 years after dying poisoned by cyanide, due to a chemical castration process which was condemned by the United Kingdom in 1952 for being openly gay -which at the time , it was illegal.
The pardon was granted by the Royal Prerogative of Mercy, after a request from Justice Minister Chris Grayling for whom Turing action saved thousands of lives.
Forgiveness valley from Tuesday (24). "Turing deserves to be remembered and recognized for its outstanding contribution to the war effort and his legacy to science. A pardon the Queen is a fitting tribute to this exceptional man, "Grayling wrote in a statement.
Turing's death was a suicide ranks the time, but scholars and biographers concluded that the mathematical died of intoxication due to drugs he was taking to fulfill his sentence.
Turing was a pioneer in computer codes. He worked in British intelligence at Bletchley Park, to assist the Allies during the Second World War to unlock the encrypted messages exchanged between the German navy. Nevertheless, Turing was during his lifetime a great unknown to the general public, since his work was kept secret until 1974.

The documents contained handwritten notes by explaining the probabilistic mathematical applications to encrypt messages and a statistical theory of repetitions.
Homosexuality was decriminalized only in the UK in 1967, but still Turing was not forgiven. The pardon had been asked earlier. In 2012, eleven British scientists, including Stephen Hawking, asked the royal pardon, but were not met.
