It was only in the last century that cookies prianik became consumed as an accompaniment to tea. In ancient times, they were indispensable item of any festive occasion, being consumed in births, holidays and weddings.
The prianik is a gingerbread cookie and honey usually served with tea in Russia. The simplest look like cookies, but thicker and covered with white icing. Already the most elaborate options such as the famous prianik city of Tula, 200 km from Moscow, are like slices of bread in order, marked with wooden press that produces drawings on its surface.
It was only in the last century that cookies prianik became consumed as an accompaniment to tea. Traditionally, the newlyweds took one prianik the parents of the bride days after the wedding. Demand for prianik was such that they generated a new profession: the prianichnik was a kind of craftsman respected passing the secret family recipes from generation to generation.
For unknown reasons, the city of Tula became the Russian capital prianik. There, in the 17th and 18th centuries, the best prianichnik led the art of preparing the prianik its heyday, creating versions in all imaginable formats. The famous museum Túlski Prianik remains in Tula until the present day - as well as the samovar museum, must-have item for the Russian tea in ancient times.
