Despite the victories, Bernie Sanders is still well behind Hillary Clinton
Senator Bernie Sanders, Democratic candidate for the White House, won by a wide margin compared to its rival, State Hillary Clinton's former secretary, primary held on Saturday (26/03) in Hawaii, Alaska and Washington.
In Hawaii, which has 25 delegates, Sanders won 71% of votes against only 29% obtained by Clinton, according to US media. Alaska, with 16 delegates at stake, Sanders managed 82% of the votes, and Washington, which has 101 delegates to distribute, obtained 73% of the vote and Clinton achieved only 18% and 27% of votes, respectively.
This triple victory is essential to give new impetus to the Sanders campaign in the primary elections that will take place next month in the Midwest and northwest of the country. Despite being the winner of the three ballots, the difference between the number of delegates obtained by Sanders compared to those obtained by Clinton is still large.
To be elected presidential candidate of the Democratic Party in Congress, the votes of 2,383 delegates are needed. According to the count of US broadcaster CNN, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton already has 1,711 delegates on his side; Sanders, in turn, only 952.
The Democratic candidates will have the next election meeting on April 5 in Wisconsin, where 86 delegates will be played, but Sanders strategy is to come up with options to California, where there are 475 delegates to distribute in June, being the state with more delegates in Game.
Clinton remains favorite
Despite the losses in Alaska and Washington, Clinton remains the favorite clear, though Sanders has been shown to be a stronger opponent than expected. Currently, it is almost certain that the senator will continue the race until at least June, or even to Congress appointment in late July.
Among Republicans, the next advance will take place in April. billionaire
Donald Trump is the favorite, ahead of Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Ohio governor, John Kasich. The next American president will be elected on 8 November.
