Brazilians think about changing pay TV for Netflix soon

São Paulo - Brazilians are not satisfied with the price of pay-TV practiced by operators. Among the 26% who wish to cancel the service in the next six months, 45% think to replace it with Netflix, which is the video platform in popular demand in Brazil. This is shown by a survey of MeSeems conducted with EXAME.com with 1,000 people from classes A, B and C, from all regions of the country.

More than half (55%) of pay TV subscribers consider very expensive monthly fee for content offered. The amount spent in service is between 51 and 150 reais per month.

Among the subscribers, 11% said they were satisfied with the cost-benefit ratio of this service, while 20% reported that the value is high, but it fits in your pocket.

Many of the people (48%) signing a TV service also uses a streaming platform like Netflix (94%), Telecine Play (19%) Net Now (16%), Globosat Play (12%) or HBO Go (11%). Now, among the non-pay TV subscribers, the number of adherence to video on demand found was slightly lower: 44%.

Of the 55% who think face the TV monthly subscription, 26% intend to cancel it in the next six months and 33% are in doubt whether or not they will cut the service soon. The main reason for the cancellation is the high cost.

Regarding Netflix, only 3% of survey respondents reported intention to cancel the subscription, while 84% said they will continue to pay for use platform.

In January, columnist Ricardo Feltrin, the UOL published an article stating that Brazilian operators plan an attack on Netflix. The idea would be to work with representatives in contact with the government to bring harmful changes to the US streaming service. This would have happened because of the fall of one million pay TV subscribers since 2014. For now, nothing has been set.

What the viewer wants to see

In pay TV, the search MeSeems indicated that the favorite of the public contents are series and foreign films, followed by news and cartoons, in a second step.

In the Netflix, favorite content are also foreign films and series, but the own productions of the company are also quite cited as Jessica Jones or House of Cards.
