Rio Olympics: with impasse to decide who pays the electric bill, supply was cut R $ 66 million and still not stabilized.
Rio - Problems in power supply in two test events held in the Olympic Park (gymnastics and swimming) were the first consequence of the delay to the definition of who would pay for temporary power during the Olympics.
The budget for the power supply for the Olympics suffered cutting R $ 66 million.
Last week, the Pre-Olympic Artistic Gymnastics, held at the Arena River, had at least two power outages - which generated protests from the International Gymnastics Federation - as the Maria Lenk Trophy, held at the Olympic Aquatic Stadium, had the most anticipated test when failed Cesar Cielo, delayed in 45 minutes by lack of light.
The problem had already happened at the opening of the stadium, at the beginning of the month.
Only at the end of February, just over six months of the start of the Olympics, it was decided who would pay the bill. In London 2012, the guarantee was given 18 months before the opening.
The federal government had committed to pay the temporary power to the ceiling of R $ 290 million, but the value was not sufficient to guarantee payment for the Olympic Park.
The initial calculations of the organizers, would require an additional $ 170 million to ensure temporary power in the Deodoro Sports Complex, in the Maracana region, which also includes Engenhão and Copacabana. It would be up to the State bear the rest.
The financial crisis of Rio made the governor Luiz Fernando Bigfoot (PMDB) encaminhasse in December a bill to the Legislative Assembly requesting that the R $ 170 million were paid through tax breaks.
Light proposed to install the system at discount exchange in the collection of VAT.
The Assembly approved the proposal at the end of February, but with 50% reduction from the original request, which left a hole of R $ 85 million to be closed by the organizers.
The Rio-2016 remade the accounts, readequou the project and cut R $ 66 million between what was originally proposed and what is being implemented.
The organization, however, did not clarify what was cut. The final cost was R $ 104 million and the committee itself has agreed to pay the difference of R $ 19 million.
Sports Director of the Rio 2016 Committee, Rodrigo Garcia acknowledged the problems but said there was "zero risk" that is repeated at the Olympics.
"Energy is a topic that we are studying a lot, but for the test events, is an entirely different configuration. Suffice it to say that the largest energy consumer is not here, which is the broadcast," he said, referring to all the necessary structure for the TV broadcast of the Games.
Even saying that not to blame the light falls in test events, and that responsibility is the Rio-2016, Light said it is developing "rigorous maintenance plan and operation covering four Olympic clusters".
