All mobile phones in India should have safety alert device, the "panic button", by 2017, to provide more assistance to women who undergo emergency situations in the country. They should also have full access to GPS tracking by 2018.

The new rules were announced to the Indian telecommunications companies to extend security to women, as it happens, at least one rape every 30 minutes in India.

From 2017, then, all women who have access to mobile phones may, by pressing the number buttons 5 or 9, send an emergency alert to operators. Already smartphones will be required to implement a new button or tool for emergency alerts.

When activated, the tool will redirect the message to a national center dedicated to this type of occurrence. This does not yet exist in India, but has implementation forecast of about 112 units across the country. The intention, when the GPS system is that any local police can also make tracking and help the victim.

"The technology was designed to make life better human being. Must therefore do it for women as soon as possible, "said Telecommunications Minister of India, Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a statement.
