Bangkok, April 5 (EFE) .- The lower house of Myanmar approved on Tuesday the bill granting the Nobel Peace Prize Aung San Suu Kyi a position equivalent to the prime minister, who conciliate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the minister of the presidency.
The law of "state advisor" was approved with the abstention of the military, which occupy 25% of the seats in both houses of parliament, local media reported.
The military deputies tried to delay the vote on the creation of a position they consider unconstitutional because it blurs the division between the legislative and executive powers, the newspaper "Myanmar Times".
Despite opposition, the National League for Democracy (NLD in English), the party of Suu Kyi, has an absolute majority in both chambers and had no trouble passing his proposal: on Friday in the Senate and now in the lower house . The initiative will become law when signed by the President of Myanmar, Htin Kyaw, the NLD.
"We proposed this law that Suu Kyi could advise the government officially the national reconciliation process and rebuilding trust. The law grants the right to advise, but not the authority," said the lawyer Aung Kyi Nyunt, NLD, last week.
One of the reasons that the NLD had to create this position was the opposition of the military to the possession of Suu Kyi as president, despite winning with overwhelming majority the 8 November 2015 elections.
The country's constitution, drafted by the last military junta prevents Suu Kyi occupy the presidency because his sons Alexander and Kim have a British passport.
The military, which with their chairs quotas have the key constitutional reforms, refuse to modify a constitution also guarantees the Defense ministries, Interior and Border Affairs, among other privileges. Myanmar has been ruled by generals 1962 until 2011.
