UN finds 800 000 displaced people in critical condition in Nigeria
Geneva - The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) found 800,000 internally displaced people who needed help in northeastern Nigeria after the advance of the Nigerian army offensive against the jihadist group Boko Haram, the agency of the international organization on Friday -feira in a statement.
Upon entering the regions of Borno and Yobe, a territory that was dominated by the terrorist group, the UNHCR was faced with severe malnutrition situation of these 800,000 people, and especially 500 thousand of them, whose condition is critical.
This is because part of the displaced was out of reach of any kind of humanitarian aid for months, even years.
Only in Borno, the agency reported on your list over 51,000 extremely vulnerable people, including 21,000 children, most of whom are orphans of father and mother.
"The situation of suffering in the states of Borno and Yobe is shocking. There are several cases of human rights violations, killings, sexual violence, disappearances, recruitment and forced religious conversions," detailed note.
In these circumstances, the UNHCR announced that it will increase its aid to those affected, but considered to be difficult to reach some areas because of the danger of the situation, as evidenced by the attack suffered in late July by a UN convoy in which three volunteers were wounded.
