CNN announced yesterday that it will carry out live streaming to virtual reality of the debate of the presidential candidates of the Democratic Party for president of the United States. It will be the first event live TV news to have streaming in virtual reality.
The event will take place on October 13 in Las Vegas, in Nevada. The live broadcast over the Internet in virtual reality will be possible thanks to a partnership between the North American station and NextVR, a specialized platform to record and transmit images of this type.
The station had already made a previous experiment with this technology: the debate between the presidential candidates of the Republican Party, which took place on September 17, was shot in virtual reality and subsequently made available on demand on the website of NextVR in Oculus Store. The debate of 13 October, however, be the first to be broadcast in real time in this format.
According to CNN, the transmission in virtual reality will allow the viewer to "focus his gaze on a particular candidate" and "realize gestures that take place outside the camera's focus" as well as give them "new perspectives" on the candidates.
