Electoral donations from the company that controls Samarco "explode". Half goes to PMDB party, which controls mining in government

By Alceu Luís Castilho (alceucastilho)

The PMDB received R $ 23.55 million from R $ 48.85 million allocated by companies Vale's financial committees and directories in the campaign of 2014. The party controls the mining sector in Brazil, indicating the Minister of Mines and Energy and the Most of the heads of the Departments of National Mineral Production (DNPM). These figures refer to the electoral donations from six companies linked to Vale: Vale Energy, Manganese Valley, Blue Valley mine, Mineração Brasileiras Reunidas, Gathered Corumbaense Mining and Metals Salobo.

In 2010, the sum of donations Vale reached R $ 29.96 million for all abbreviations. This shows an exponential increase of the Vale group investing in political campaigns. But it's more than that: that year, the company donated only to committees and directories. In 2014, also donated for specific applications, the Congress for president. That adds up to an additional $ 39,320,000 drained Vale for government and opposition politicians, making a total of R $ 88 million - three times more than in 2010.

Among the donors to parties (committees, directories), the PMDB now shoots primarily with its R $ 23.5 million. Next come the PT, with R $ 8.25 million, the PSDB, with R $ 6.96 million, and the PSB, with R $ 3.5 million. PP and PCdoB appear tied to R $ 1.5 million each. DEM and PCdoB received R $ 990,000 and R $ 900,000. The list is completed with SD (R $ 920,000), PPS (R $ 800,000), PSD (R $ 250,000), PROS (R & 150000), PRB and PDT (US $ 100,000 each) and PEN (R $ 70 000).

The data is of Elections, compiled by Other Words. The table below refers to donations to parties, not the candidates.

Vale's numbers in 2014 are greater than the document released by the Who's Who in the New Discussion Mining Code, for three of these companies were not on the list made by IBASE. The sum consolidates Vale as a major campaign donor in 2014. The company is part of the Anglo-Australian BHP Billiton, a partner at the Samarco, responsible for dam failure in Mariana (MG), one of the largest environmental crimes in Brazilian history. Eight people have been found dead and dozens are missing.

That $ 49 million in grants to committees and directories not yet give account of all donations made in 2014. That campaign because you can donate to political parties - by the committees and directories - or for specific applications. Are these to Congress, are for the Executive. In practice, some donations to state directories have been relocated by the PMDB and benefited from specific applications, in particular the parliamentary working in Congress to defend the interests of corporations.

CAMPAIGNS majority

The candidacy of President Dilma Rousseff (PT) received R $ 12 million of Vale Energia (R $ 2.5 million), Salobo Metais (R $ 3.5 million), Mining Corumbaense Reunited, the MCR (R $ 4 million) and mining Brasileiras Reunidas, MBR (R $ 2 million). Far more than the money injected by the companies in the other party candidates. The federal government nods fines to Samarco for leaking waste in Mariana (MG), which has come to the Atlantic Ocean, killing animals, plants and polluting rivers on a scale rarely seen in the world.

These numbers represent a major inflection in relation to donations made by companies related to Vale in the election of 2010. That year, according to the IBASE, donations to the PMDB (US $ 5.76 million) appeared only in third place, behind PT with R $ 10.38 million, and the PSDB, with R $ 6.95 million. Unlike 2014, when the two acronyms also competed in the second round, Vale just donated to the national campaign committees, or national directories, and not for individual candidates.

The campaign of the candidate Aécio Neves (PSDB), defeated in the second round last year received R $ 2.7 million worth of Energy, also created in the times of Vale do Rio Doce. Not included in DCE donations from other companies in the Valley. The candidate Marina Silva (PSB today on Network) received R $ 488,000 Mining Corumbaense Reunited, the MCR, acquired by Vale a few years ago one of its main global competitors, Rio Tinto.

Miner governor, Fernando Pimentel (PT), also had campaign funded by mining companies. Among them, Valley Energy, Vale Manganese, MBR and MCR. Manganese Valley and Blue Valley Mines (these are all the valley) contributed R $ 1 million to the campaign of his rival, the toucan Pimenta da Veiga. Elected senator, former governor Antonio Anastasia (PSDB) was also funded by CBMM (R $ 500,000) and companies in the Valley, as Valley Energy (R $ 300,000) and MBR (R $ 500,000).

MAN OF THE AMENDMENTS

The MCR appears as a major donor to the election campaign of the mayor, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB), with R $ 700 thousand. The donation was to the PMDB directory, which transferred the funds to the candidate. He also received, also through the directory, R $ 1 million from CRBS, which specializes in mineral prospecting which invested R $ 32.35 million in the 2014 campaign, of which R $ 4 million to the National PMDB directory and R $ 600 000 for the Rio leadership of the party.

Cunha was the leader in amendments to the new Code: no less than 90 Far ahead of second-placed Bernardo Vasconcelos (PMDB-MG), which presented 24 amendments. One third of the amendments were presented by the PMDB deputies.
