See that moon shining in the sky? Well, if you depend on a group of Russians, the brightness of it will not even be compared to a new amateur satellite. Called Mayak, the project is simply to launch an artificial object that can shine more than the real stars. And Putin's government has approved the idea.
"Mayak" is the Russian word for "light", but it is more mirror. The object does not have its own light, it reflects the sunlight to achieve stand out amidst the dark sky - just as the Moon does. In addition, the satellite, which measures 16m² and has a pyramid shape, make a path to 600 km height that will make it visible from anywhere in the world. Even if your sky is polluted or cloudy, you will locate it precisely with the aid of an application. For all this to work, the Mayak will also include a system that will divert the space junk.
To make the idea, students of Moscow University tried to raise money with the help of Internet. They put the project in BoomStarter, Russian KickStarter to raise 1.5 million rubles. He took it right: they have already achieved 90 rublios, and still have eight days to end the period of storage.
The project also provides for a satellite replica to display at the Cosmonaut Museum in Moscow, and a study to a new technique for landing satellites in the back to Earth. "We want to show that space exploration is something exciting and interesting and now it is available for anyone who is interested," said Alexander Shaenko, one of the project leaders, also to Sputnik.
