An experimental rocket the US military broke the speed record for vehicles on magnetized rails.
The rocket reached 1018 km / h, equivalent to go about 280 meters in a second.
The previous record was 603 km / h.
The launch record occurred earlier this month at the air base of Holloman, in the US state of New Mexico, and it came almost six years of planning.
The rocket levitates above magnetized tracks with magnets help
superconductor and liquid helium kept at very low temperature. No friction, the vehicle can go to a much higher speed than if leaned on the rails.
