Strong earthquake hits South Asia
An earthquake measuring 6.6 struck southern Asia on Sunday, shaking buildings in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India, witnesses and the US Geological Survey (USGS, for its acronym in English), but there is no immediate news of damage or deaths.
The USGS said the quake occurred near the center Chitral, in northwest Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, at a depth of 210 kilometers.
Residents left their homes in Kabul and Islamabad at the time of the quake, with buildings shaking for well over one minute in both capitals. Similar reports were made in the north and center of Pakistan.
A Reuters witness in Chitral said the quake was strong but there was no major visible damage.
