Machine converts food wasted in cooking gas

HomeBiogas

Let's talk about cooking with gas.

The HomeBiogas, a company based in Beit Yanai, Israel, produces a biogas system that converts food scraps and organic waste into clean cooking gas and its by-product can be used as liquid fertilizer for plants.

Best of all is that it is easy to assemble and can be placed in the backyard of his house.

You can put in the organic waste system of all kinds, including meat, dairy products and even cat litter used. Once inside, the bacteria in the digester will decompose organic material and release biogas.

The HomeBiogas, which is being sold for $ 995 for a limited time, works without electricity. Its daily production of gas is equivalent to about six kilowatt-hours of energy.

"To speak in language that a layman understands, it produces enough gas to cook for three hours," said Ami Amir, director of marketing and commercial development HomeBiogas, speaking to "Waste 360". "The machine accepts meat, fish, fats, oils and dairy products, things that are not treatable by common composting systems."

Amir said the gas can be used for lighting or heating water, provided they are used compatible devices with low pressure biogas.

As the systems can be assembled and disassembled easily, they were used in areas that have no electricity. For example, Reuters reported that the European Union has funded a project to take 40 HomeBiogas systems to the Palestinian village of al-Awja, in the Jordan Valley, in the central part of the West Bank.

The "Jewish Business News" reported that the system was also mounted on Buvundya Orphanage in Uganda, thanks to a donor. The chief scientist and co-founder Yair Teller told JBN:

"The children in the orphanage were amazed when they discovered the 'magic' of HomeBiogas, with which they can turn their waste and produce their own energy."
