Thai medalist grandmother dies celebrating victory grandson

The grandmother of 84 years of the Thai weightlifter Sinphet Kruaithong, winner on Sunday of the bronze medal in 56 kg in the Rio Games, died of a heart attack while celebrating the achievement.

Subin Kongthap died while accompanying proof grandson on television.

Police rural province of Surin can not say yet if she died of emotion or was ill.

During an interview with local media before the competition, the athlete's grandmother said that much loved his grandson and was glad he had gone to compete in Rio.

Sinphet Kruaithong is the second Thai athlete to win a medal in Rio, after the Sopita Tanasan gold, 21 on Saturday, also in weightlifting, 48 kg category.
