The ruling party loses the capital of South Africa in municipal



Johannesburg, Aug 6, 2016 (AFP) - The African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, lived on Saturday a historic setback in local elections to lose in the capital, Pretoria, opposite the main opposition party, the Democratic alliance (DA), according to partial results disseminated by the Electoral Commission.

In Tshwane, the city that includes Pretoria, DA managed 43.1% of them votes against el 41.2% obtained by the CNA, who ruled with absolute majority the city, according to the results published after the investigation of last Wednesday's elections.

The opposition center-right party also won in Port Elizabeth, the sixth most populous city in South Africa.

More than 26 million voters were called to vote in municipal elections, according to the Electoral Commission, they were carried out without incident.

The poor results are a historical fact for the party of Nelson Mandela, who has ruled South Africa since the end of racial dictatorship of apartheid and the advent of democracy in 1994.
