Marriage: virtual assistant will help grooms organize wedding parties
São Paulo - This week met Meeka. She specializes in helping newlyweds to organize weddings. She is able to follow the agenda, help in searches for suppliers and also keep an eye on finances available for the ceremony. She is always available to respond to requests and questions by phone, what it does in a matter of seconds.
Meeka is a robot.
It was created as an application by the Brazilian startup Mecasei. The central idea is to facilitate the flow of planning and executing a wedding. Incidentally, this is the central proposal of the startup as a whole.
A month ago, the Mecasei had no application and worked only with a web version. Meeka has come to change that. Initially, it works only within the app, which has version for smartphones with Android and iOS.
In the future, personal assistant should now operate outside the application-it already operates within the Telegram, for example. "We expect to see Meeka working within applications such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp," said Marcio Acorci CEO Mecasei in a demonstration to EXAME.com. For this to be possible, just that Facebook open your apps to external developers.
All interaction with Meeka is made through text. It is not an assistant who speaks like Siri, Apple. According to Mecasei, it will also features Google Now service. Meeka will be proactive to bring matters of interest to the couple.
She will be able to report on the party RSVPs or receiving gifts. The idea is that Meeka also alert the bride and groom if the planning is too late.
The perfect wedding
The personal assistant was created using the cognitive computing platform from IBM, Watson. You may remember him as the supercomputer that won a contest of questions and answers. But Watson changed much since then.
Today, IBM offers 30 APIs (acronym for Application Programming Interface) Watson developers. An API is a set of protocols and tools that are used to create programs. This knowledge is provided by IBM for businesses and startups that wanted to build a product.
The previous practice of Watson helps Meeka understand content written by a user, even if the person is using slang or has committed misspellings, for example. Pardon the pun, it is the perfect marriage.
To create Meeka, the Mecasei initially used three of the 30 APIs available. "The secret is to know which of Watson content use, does not appeal to the maximum available APIs. The Mecasei did a great job of that, "said EXAME.com Thiago Rotta, leading solutions architect for IBM Watson in Brazil.
The content is in the platform IBM Bluemix cloud, which greatly facilitates the development work. According to Mecasei, development wizard took three months. The whole implementation of cognitive computing (a complex work) took only three weeks.
The next step is to expand the functions. A first idea is to use the recognition API Watson images. Marcio Acorci says the company is studying launching Meeka other countries. Also thanks to the knowledge of Watson, the assistant is already able to converse in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
You can download the app in stores from Apple and Google and have Meeka as your wedding helper.
