Washington - In a remarkable demonstration of strength, Senator Bernie Sanders was heavily booed by his own supporters on Monday, the unit ask for the candidacy of Hillary Clinton wins the Republican Donald Trump in the end of year elections.
After months defending a political revolution, Sanders said it was imperative to ensure the vote in November.
His comments came after emails leaked by Wikileaks show that the Democratic National Committee have acted to favor Hillary during the primaries of the party. That led the Chairman of the Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, to resign on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, which begins today.
"Right now, we have to defeat Donald Trump, and we have to elect Hillary Clinton and (vice) Tim Kaine" he said.
The declaration received a strong wave of boos by militants and delegates connected to the senator.
He replied: "Brothers and sisters, brothers and sisters, this is the world we live in."
Reception can advance the mood of the evening on Monday, when Sanders is scheduled to be the last speaker of the first day of the convention. The Senator has declared support for Clinton and she tells him to bring more votes for his candidacy.
He attacked Trump, saying it "puts at risk the future of the country" and also talked about the future of the political movement he leads.
He appealed to his supporters to continue fighting for the ideals cultivated during the primaries and said it expected to support at least one hundred candidates with similar platforms around the country.
"You heard me say a million times that this campaign is not just about electing a president," he said. "It's up to build a movement to transform this country. Elections come and go, but the struggle for social justice, economic, racial and environmental continues." Source: Dow Jones Newswires.
