Former prisoner of Guantanamo sought in Brazil is seen in Caracas
MONTEVIDEO, 27 JUL - Jihad Ahmed Diyab, one of six former Guantanamo detainees welcomed by Uruguay that was wanted in Brazil, has been seen in Venezuela, said Uruguayan Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
Earlier this month, representatives of the Federal Police (PF) confirmed that Diyab was wanted in the country and had been taken several security measures, especially given the proximity of the Olympic Games.
The fear was that he was binding the some terrorist cell because, before being sent to Guantanamo, acted as a recruiter of al-Qaeda.
According to Novoa, Diyab presented to the Uruguayan consulate in Caracas after being last seen more than a month on the border with Brazil. He arrived in Venezuela after crossing the bus country, carrying Uruguayan documents. The press of Uruguay reported that he intends to travel to Turkey, where he has family.
