IOC member is arrested suspected of illegal ticket sales

Olimpíadas 2016  police officers arrested today (18) in Rio de Janeiro Irish Patrick Joseph Hickey, President of the Olympic Committee of Ireland and a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), on suspicion of involvement in an international scheme of illegal ticket sales.

Against him, there was an arrest warrant issued by Rio Justice. Agents also fulfilled a warrant for search and seizure.

Hickey is cambismo suspect, that is, selling tickets above the price printed on tickets. judo former fighter, Hickey is a member of the Coordination Committee of the Rio 2016 Games, responsible for overseeing the planning and organization of the event.

In his investigations into the illegal sale of Rio tickets 2016, the Bureau of defrauding and the Center for Support of Major Events of the Civil Police (Nage) had arrested red-handed the director of the British company THG, Kevin Mallon, and an employee of Barbara Carnieri company, on 5 August.

This week, the court ordered the arrests of four other directors of THG, specializing in trading income and business responsiveness in major sporting events: David Patrick Gilmore, Marcus Paul Bruce Evans, Maarten Van Os and Martin Studd.

As they are outside the country, the arrest warrant was sent to the Federal Police and the international police Interpol.
