South African president says he will return to the government R $ 60 million it spent in your home
The president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, assured on Friday that respects the decision of the Constitutional Court and return part of the 246 million rand (about R $ 60 million) spent on the renovation of his private residence.
"I respect the decision and will abide by it," said Zuma in a speech to the nation on state television rebroadcast, just a day after the Constitutional, in an unprecedented resolution, ordered him to repay the public money he used improperly.
In March 2014 the public defender Thuli Madonsela established in a report that the public money spent on Nkandla, private complex Zuma, had not been used to strengthen the security structures, as claimed by the presidency.
According to research of the Public Defender, among the works paid for with state funds and allegedly intended to increase the security of the residential complex was included a barn, a stable for cows, a swimming pool and an amphitheater.
"I will pay the amount that corresponds to the reforms in Nkandla not related to safety when the corresponding authority to determine," said the South African President.
The exact amount you will have to repay will be determined within a period of 60 days by the National Treasury, the calculation of which must be approved by the Constitutional.
"The president has not, did not defend or respect the Constitution", he said yesterday the verdict reached unanimously by the 11 judges of the Constitutional Court.
This case is the biggest corruption scandal of President Jacob Zuma, who came to power in 2009 after the prosecution dropped the more than 700 corruption charges hanging over him.
