Refugees: EU welcome a Syrian refugee present in Turkish territory for each migrant who reach the EU through Greece and is expelled to Turkey
Amnesty International on Friday accused the Turkish authorities to force every day dozens of Syrians to return to their country at war, which shows, according to the NGO, "the terrible failures of the EU-Turkey agreement."
"The authorities gather and drive almost daily since mid-January, about a hundred children, women and Syrian men toward Syria," says the NGO human rights, a few days before the return to Turkey of the first groups migrants to be expelled from the European Union, pursuant to this agreement signed on 20 March.
The Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu confirmed on Thursday that the EU welcome a Syrian refugee present in Turkish territory for each migrant who reach the EU through Greece and is expelled to Turkey.
Greece will begin on Monday to deport migrants to Turkey, including Syrians who have crossed illegally the Aegean Sea to enter the EU.
"Desperate to block its borders, EU leaders voluntarily ignored the simplest of all facts: Turkey is not a safe country for Syrian refugees and every day is less," said John Dalhuisen, Director for Europe of Amnesty.
"The large-scale return of Syrian refugees (...) emphasize the terrible failures of the EU-Turkey agreement," he adds.
