São Paulo - Who is a fan of Game of Thrones know that the plot has a lot of characters - precisely 50 in the series (not counting the supporting cast). There are so many people in just a story that is difficult to say which is the protagonist. After all, the hero of Game of Thrones is Daenerys, Jon Snow, Tyrion or neither?
Cismados it, a pair of mathematicians of Macalester College in the United States, decided to answer this question with several graphics. They used a theory branch of applied graphics, which is connected with other disciplines such as computer science and sociology, to understand how the information about the book flow.
The scientists analyzed all the works of the series A Song of Ice and Fire, written by George R. R. Martin. First, they began to connect the characters every time they interacted. A link was added between them whenever one of them appeared 15 words after the other - but these connections were also analyzed according to the close relationship between the two characters.
You can see the links in the infographic below:
From this research emerged a structure that divided the characters into different groups, from the place that each person lives, their family relationships and even enmities between them. Then, the mathematical characters classified into different categories - one makes a Rankin according to the amount of connections that each has.
The three characters who have better positions in all categories are Jon Snow, Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister - this took first place in all areas except one. Strangely, Daenerys Targaryen did not appear in the classification podium. According to experts, this happened because it is geographically isolated.
However, Daenerys remains a very important character to the fabric. In an interview for the site Quartz, Andrew J. Beveridge, one of the authors of the study, explains that she can dictate the future of Game of Thrones because of its connection with important characters.
