Opponents of Trump revolt and convention turns chaos

Delegados protestam contra decisão da convenção do Partido Republicano dos Estados Unidos em Cleveland

Cleveland - The Republican National Convention became a chaos on Monday when potential chosen opponents to be the party's candidate for president of the United States, Donald Trump, left angry place of the meeting and shouted in protest because of their failure to win a symbolic vote opposing the candidacy of Trump.

Confusion threatened Trump campaign's efforts to show a united party around the now political entrepreneur and overshadowed the day's theme, "Make Safe America Again", which was intended to show Trump as a strong leader capable of protecting the country of violence and militancy.

The forces opposed to Trump wanted to change the party's nomination rules to allow alternative candidates would support Republican delegates to Trump.

When party leaders by acclamation declared that the efforts of opponents had failed for lack of votes, pandemonium started on the floor of the Cleveland basketball arena where Trump must be formally nominated this week.

Many delegates began to demand a roll call, shouting: "Voting by roll call, roll call vote." Others left the place saying they had to assess their next steps.

The protests, an embarrassment for Trump, highlight the deep divisions within the party because of his candidacy. A current senior Republicans, concerned about the temperament and the Trump policies were already staying away from the convention.

DEATHS overshadow CONVENTION

The Convention was opened on Monday, overshadowed by the recent deaths of police and black men.

Trump allies will promote what he calls a hard line on law and order and national security in later speeches.

The shooting attack against three police officers in Baton Rouge on Sunday, a selective action that may have been retaliation for the series of black Americans of killings by police, hovered over the meeting.

The theme for the first day of convention had already been established as "Make America Safe Again." Trump has sought to present himself as the candidate of law and order, echoing the presidential campaign success Richard Nixon in 1968.
