Wonder Woman artist resigns because cover
Frank Cho is no longer cover artist of comics of Wonder Woman.
The American artist of 44 years had been called by DC Comics to work on 24 cases variants for the bimonthly magazine of the superhero, which he held six. However, according to Cho, writer Greg Rucka, 46, called "vulgar" one of the covers and said "shows too much skin" of the character.
In testimony to Bleeding Cool, the artist said that except Rucka, "ALL love" their art to Wonder Woman and want it to remain in the magazine - unless the screenwriter who have "changed" and "censored" their work.
Cho argued the BC that the amount of skin that Wonder Woman shows on the cover in question is the same present in the core of the magazine, and in addition, because it is a variant cover and not the official, Rucka should not have control over she. The designer said that the observations colleague were "incomprehensible".
"I tried to take it all in stride, not cause trouble and give my best on the covers, but the weird political agenda Greg against me and my art has the impossible job," he said. "Wonder Woman is the ONLY reason I came to DC."
"I just wanted to do my covers variants in peace, but Greg Rucka is determined to control everything hostilely, causing unnecessary disagreements."
The writer declined the request of BC for comment.
The US comic book community was buzzing with the news. On Twitter, many have positioned themselves in favor of Cho, with #teamcho, or Rucka with #teamrucka - see here.
The designer has been criticized several times by the way that portrays female characters. In 2015, for example, a cover he did for Spider-Gwen, Marvel, caused controversy by showing the character in a highly eroticized pose.
