People who stop using Facebook for a week felt happier than those who remained connected, according to a Danish study, which blames the network for social ills such as poor concentration or little active social life.

"We chose Facebook because it is the social network most used by people of all ages," he told AFP Meik Wiking, director of the Institute for Research on Happiness, which conducted the study of 1,095 people in Denmark.

This group was divided in two: half continued using Facebook, while the other stopped.

After a week, people stopped using Facebook said they were more satisfied with their lives.

In total, 88% of them said they felt happy, compared with 81% in the other group, and 84% highlighted appreciate more his life (against 75%). Only 12% said they were dissatisfied, compared to 20% among people connected to the social network.

When finished experience, group members to set aside Facebook said they now have a more active social life and less difficulty concentrating, while others still had these difficulties.

"Rather than focus on what we need, unfortunately we have the custom to concentrate on the things of others" say the study authors.

Facebook has 1.5 billion active users worldwide.
