Melanie Martinez makes shows in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro on 27 and 29 November
In an exclusive interview, the singer spoke about the expectations with Brazil and his alter-ego, Cry Baby
The American singer Melanie Martinez arrives in Brazil on Friday (27) with the same intention when you signed up reality show "The Voice" in 2012: captivate and inspire audiences with his style - visual and musical - unique.
At the time, aged just 17, Melanie won over the jury with its unique voice to sing an acoustic version of "Toxic" by Britney Spears, playing guitar and tambourine (with feet). We reached the Top 6 of the program and went on his way to becoming one of the most cited names among the new pop promises.
Always running away from the mainstream, Melanie, now at 20, is closer to Björk than Katy Perry, Taylor Swift or other of contemporary pop. This does not mean you can not achieve significant results for an artist considered "indie".
Their first studio album, "Cry Baby" reached the top spot in the parade of "Alternative Album" and 6th in the "Top 200" of Billboard, with 40,000 copies sold in the first week. Prior to the release, the song "Carousel" was chosen as the opening theme of the 4th season of "American Horror Story - Freak Show".
On the album, we are introduced to the Cry Baby, a girl passing by conflict at home and with itself and gradually discovers who he is and what he wants from life. With lyrics sometimes disturbing and unusual melodies, Melanie's alter-ego takes shape every track on the album.
Even with the two-color hair that has become his trademark, Melanie brings his Cry Baby Tour for two sold-out shows in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro on 27 and 29 November at the Carioca Club and Miranda respectively.
Days earlier, in an interview with iG, Melanie talked a bit about your expectations with Brazil and who is the Cry Baby, a character who lends his semi-fictional story and his name for the debut album of the young.
"Energy and wonderful people" are the two things that most Melanie waiting for their trip to Brazil. The country is the only one outside of North America to receive the visit of the singer, who is touring since early August.
Perfectionist, it promises to deliver more than just a show fans. "I want to show the history of the album and make people have fun and connect with Cry Baby. And you have fun too. "On stage, she confesses embody his alter-ego for presentations to be able to give more veracity to the songs. "It is surely the Cry Baby on stage. She is always telling his story to the public, not me. "
But it seems that Cry Baby does not like much that the audience too carried away during the performances. In early October, Melanie complained on a social network of fans shouting during the songs. "It is very distracting when all I hear is" I love you, sit on me "while I'm singing. I want you to listen to the show for which they paid, "he wrote.
On the subject, he said: "It's very hard to concentrate when people yell inappropriate things or trying to get my attention attention at the wrong time not like it when scream while I'm singing, but I love to sing the songs with me.".
After two shows in Brazil, Melanie only back to the road in January 2016, in Australia, but does not intend to stand still in the meantime. "I will release clips for all the songs on the album for people to understand the visual identity of them. And I will focus on making new songs that represent me and represent my art. "
On a new album, still ensures that we will know much of the Cry Baby life and that the current job was just an introduction to the life of his alter-ego. "I am the Cry Baby and I can not cut myself off it. I want to create a world, a city and hope that each album can be a part of a whole. "
