Teens create a condom that changes color when detecting STDs

English students of Isaac Newton Academy in London, developed a smart condom which is able to detect sexually transmitted diseases. Young people aged 13 to 14 years say that the project, which was named STEYE, has antibodies that attach to common bacterial STD, causing the colors of condoms being changed depending on the illness found.

"We wanted to do something that would make the harmful STD detection safer so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without invasive medical procedures," explains Daanyaal Ali, 14, of the idea of creators . "We are confident that we can bring peace of mind to users and ensure that people can be even more accountable than in the past."

The project won the top award for innovation in health TeenTech Awards, an award that promotes science, engineering and technology in schools. The prize for young people is £ 1,000 (about R $ 4,800) and a trip to Buckingham Palace.

For now, the condom is just a concept.
