                Stephen Hawking

Physicist Stephen Hawking asked the British, on Tuesday, to vote in favor of the European Union (EU) in a referendum in July and took the opportunity to criticize the presumptive Republican candidate for president of the United States, Donald Trump.

"Distant are the days when we could face the world alone," said Hawking, one of the most respected scientists in the world, told ITV television.

"We need to be part of a wider group of nations, both for our security and for our trade," he added, saying that for him, freedom of movement for academic and research resources are the most important reasons to keep on block.

When asked how he could explain the popularity of Trump, Hawking said: "I can not is a demagogue who always seems to be appealing to the lowest common denominator." Voters.

According to a study of the company Digital Science, a "no" in the referendum of June 23 in Britain can put at risk 1.2 billion euros in research. Britain is the second recipient of EU research funds, behind Germany.
