White House part is blocked by suspicious package

                     

Washington - The north side of the White House was closed for security on Monday because of a suspicious package, said an official of the Secret Service.

The partial blockage in the holiday "Memorial Day" took place as the US President, Barack Obama, was in place.

Reporters were not allowed to leave the complex of the White House from the northwest gate and flashing emergency lights were seen nearby.

The authority of the Secret Service said they were being made checks for hazardous materials.

Obama visited Arlington Cemetery early in the day as part of the annual celebration for members of the armed forces.
